Q.
I have had congenital glaucoma since birth & have been smoking for a year now - can this possibly cause vision loss?
thanks x
A.
Apart from the fact that you have congenital glaucoma, smoking is one of the most common causes of partial and complete blindness – the blood vessels and retina are sensitive and can easily be damaged by smoke.
The chemicals in cigarettes cause inflammation and cause the eyes to look bloodshot, they also cause itching.
Smokers are also at increased risk of cataracts.
