Tobacco smoke contains Arsenic, This is a deadly poison, used in insecticides.
Low
tar cigarettes used to be marketed under names such
as ‘mild’, ‘light’ or ‘ultra
light’. This is no longer allowed due to the
mass of evidence that ‘low tar’ cigarettes
are just as harmful as regular cigarettes.
Low tar cigarettes have tiny holes in their filters,
causing air to mix with the smoke inhaled by low
tar smokers. This means they taste weaker and less
harsh than regular cigarettes due to the fact that
the smoke is diluted.
However, in many cases, this causes smokers to smoke
low tar cigarettes more intensively, thus counteracting
the dilution effect. In addition, smokers may inadvertently
(or deliberately) cover the holes with either their
fingers or their lips.
The machines used to measure the tar and nicotine
yielded by a particular brand of cigarette are not
set to take any of this into account.
