Accidents happen. Or perhaps you just forgot? Sometimes people are just silly. If you have had unprotected sex - you've forgotten to take your pill/the condom split/you didn't use anything - then there is something to fall back on. It's called emergency contraception. It is important to remember it is only for emergencies, a last resort.There are two kinds:

Emergency contraceptive pills - you need to take these within 72 hours. (It is often called the "morning after" pill which is misleading.) An IUD (a coil) which must be fitted within five days.

So be quick! You can get them free from your GP, a young persons clinic, hospital A&E departments or a family planning clinic. It is also available through the school nurse in some schools - even if you are under 16.
