Doping is the term given to using certain banned drugs and methods in sport. It refers to drugs and methods which might be used in an attempt to improve performance, gaining an unfair advantage, to alter body shape, and also drugs which can be used to treat injury or illness, which if misused, may cause damage to your health.

Governing bodies of sport, together with UK Sport, have introduced measures to try to prevent doping, both to make sportspeople aware of the dangers, and to make sure there is no cheating.

The International Olympic Committee and World Anti-Doping Agency have drawn up a list of banned drugs and methods. Most governing bodies of sport go along with these.

If you are a competitor you should check with your governing body which substances are banned in your sport.
