| Alright, well I´m here today to tell you everything that you´ve ever been told by your parents, family and teachers and more. There´s one exception: I´m living proof that it´s all true. Not being much older that you. I can remember like it was yesterday all the advice people gave me and how I dismissed it as a load of old **** from boring old people. I´m only in my early twenties and I wished I´d listened to them already and it´s not just being sent to prison, which made me think this way. I realised I should have listened when I was about 13 or 14 before I was even close to prison. I started out the classical way, living proof again that the play you are seeing is true (reference to the drama presentation of the Drugs and Time Means Doing Time project). When I was 12 I started nicking small stuff from shops. Then when I was 14 I started to take drugs, smoking cannabis and taking acid. By the time I was 16 I was heavily into speed and ecstasy. Not long after that I began to get it for all my friends, and then it escalated to the point where earlier this year I was dealing large amounts of drugs. I, like most people, thought that I would never get caught. It even got to the point where I thought there was no reason for me to even be arrested. At the beginning of this year I was watching a programme about how difficult it was for inmates to get a job and get their lives back on track and I was sat there thinking, You Idiots, what the hell are you doing in prison, I´ll never ever be in there. Look at me today. I was actually sat there with drugs in the next room thinking that there was no way I would ever end up in trouble. Compared to quite a few of the men I´m very lucky. I´m lucky in the way that I´ve been nicked and learnt my lesson while I´m still very young. You can be even luckier by learning the lesson now before ending up where we are and if you fall into a life of crime, no matter how small you will end up here. Believe me unless you´re stupid you will one day end up taking this advice whether it´s because you´re stupid and end up in prison and realise then, that you should have taken it, or whether you are clever and take it now, you will end up taking it, so you may as well start now. |
