What it looks like: Methadone comes in three main forms: a thick bright green or yellow liquid; white tablets; ampoules which contain a clear liquid. The tablets and ampoules are often known by their trade name: physeptone.
|  | Apparent Positive Effects: - It is a painkiller.
- It is a sedative.
- It can give a buzz which is less intense but longer lasting than heroin.
- It produces a warm feeling in the body.
- It calms the emotions and can make you drowsy.
The Downside: - It can cause sweating, a dry mouth, constipation and itching.
- It makes concentration difficult and energy levels low.
- Users become physically dependent upon it. This causes major issues as with heroin.
- Withdrawal symptoms are very unpleasant. These include a high temperature, flu like symptoms, feeling shaky and sick, diarrhoea, restlessness, insomnia and anxiety.
- There is a high risk of overdose in the early stages of use, and when using erratically.
- Methadone can slow the breathing until it stops. This may affect the brain and can lead to a coma or even death.
- This drug is sometimes injected which carries its own risks.
- There is a higher risk of overdose if alcohol is used with methadone.
