This drug is a prescription only sedative, used primarily as a pre-operation anaesthetic or strong sleeping pill. Stronger doses can bring on loss of
memory. It takes effect very quickly sometimes as quickly as 10 minutes
after being taken. It reaches its peak eight hours later when it can make
someone totally unconscious. It is about ten times stronger than Valium.
This is a class C drug.
.
What it looks like:

It is a tasteless and odourless pill which can easily be ground down into
powder. This has been used to spike drinks, making the person incapable.
Sexual assault can then take place, with the person not necessarily having
any memory of it. It is difficult to prove what has happened as all traces
of the drug disappear after 24 hours.

The Downside:
  • Rohypnol is unlikely to be fatal if used on its own. If combined with other drugs, eg alcohol or cannabis, it is much more likely to be dangerous. Rohypnol suppresses the central nervous and respiratory systems, so there is a chance you could stop breathing. Hallucinations, vertigo, skin rashes, stomach problems and changes in libido can also be experienced.

THE RISK OF THESE DRUGS BEING USED AS A MEANS FOR SEXUAL ASSAULT IS VERY REAL. THE FOLLOWING GUIDELINES MAY HELP PROTECT YOU:

  • Don´t accept opened drinks from strangers or people you don´t
    trust.

  • If you feel odd, sick or very drunk after only a couple of drinks,
leave immediately and go to a safe place.

  • If you are alone or with a stranger, call friends and tell them where
    you are.
