The full name for ecstasy is Methylenedioxymethamphetamine or MDMA. It is a man-made drug.

Known As:
Many of the tablets have indented pictures on them, crowns, doves etc. These give them their street names. Other street names relate to their colour or texture eg Disco burgers, Rhubarb and custard, Dennis the menace.

Ecstasy comes in two main forms - tablets and capsules. These both come in a variety of colours.
|  | Apparent Positive Effects: - Users feel alert and in tune with their surroundings.
- Users feel things much more intensely than normal - especially music and emotions of togetherness.
- Sounds and colours are much more intense.
- Users can dance for hours.
The Downside:
Can leave users tired and depressed for days after taking it. Some people feel sick and experience a stiffening up of arms and legs and particularly the jaw. Long-term or heavy use can lead to anxiety, panic attacks, insomnia and paranoia. Once the drug is no longer used these symptoms disappear. Potentially dangerous for anyone with high blood-pressure, heart trouble or prone to epileptic fits. Can affect concentration - dangerous to drive or operate machinery whilst under the influence. Users run the risk of suffering dehydration and heat-stroke. Some fatalities are thought to have resulted from this. The long-term risks of regular ecstasy use are not yet fully known. It is thought to cause damage to brain cells and to the liver. It is also thought to be linked to mental illness in later life. |
