Cocaine is extracted from the leaves of the coca plant which is found mainly in Peru and Bolivia. This is a class A drug. Known As: Coke, Charlie, snow, C; crack is known as Rock, Wash or Stone. Looks Like: The plant is processed into a fine white powder. Crack is cocaine which has been chemically altered by ´cooking up´ resulting in small crystal like rocks. The name crack originates from the sound it produces during the manufacturing process. Apparent Positive Effects: Intense feeling of exhilaration and well-being Increased confidence, energy and alertness Can have an anaesthetic effect. The Downside: Often causes loss of appetite Causes feelings of anxiety and panic, agitation, mood swings and paranoia. These feelings usually disappear once the drug is no longer in the system. Frequent use can lead to nausea, insomnia, weight loss, extreme nervousness and excitability Psychosis can develop, which is a condition similar to schizophrenia There is a strong emotional and psychological dependence on this drug because of its short-lived intense high. This is an expensive drug that can quickly lead to financial problems. This can drastically affect a person´s behaviour and lifestyle.
