· A large amount of alcohol consumed in a short   time, sometimes referred to as binge drinking,   puts strain on the liver and other organs of the   body. It can also cause raised blood pressure,   which can result in coronary heart disease or   some kinds of strokes.

· Drinking too much alcohol in one go can cause   you to have blackouts or lose consciousness.   In the worst-case scenario it can result in   ALCOHOL POISONING. This is essentially an   overdose of alcohol taken into the body. Each   year 1000 children under the age of 15 are   admitted to hospital with acute alcohol   poisoning. This can and does result in   death.

· Drinking alcohol can also make the body   dehydrated. This is one of the reasons why   people feel hungover after drinking too much.   This can be particularly dangerous if you drink   alcohol before joining in active sport.

· Drinking too much alcohol in a short space of   time can make you sick.
